The Myrtle Beach International Airport Announces Winners from the Airport's Second Annual Horry County High School Student Art Contest

The Myrtle Beach International Airport wishes to congratulate students who submitted winning artistic concepts in the airport's second annual student art contest.

Launched in 2020, the contest was created to provide an opportunity for Horry County High School students to display their talent, while enhancing the passenger terminal with local artwork. The contest was briefly suspended due to the pandemic and was relaunched in 2022.

For the 2022 contest, participants were invited to create a work of art inspired by the theme:

Nonstop fun: MYR offers customers nonstop flights to 50+ destinations. From the list of destinations where we fly, choose your favorite city!

The first place winners were Anthony Vertiz and Cruz Hermenegildo from Loris High School, who created artwork depicting the Cloud Gate in Millennium Park, located in Chicago, IL. The second place winner was Grace Clark from Myrtle Beach High School, who created an acrylic painting depicting the idyllic Niagara Falls. The third place winner was Elizabeth McCollum from Myrtle Beach High School, who submitted a digital and stylized rendition of the tropical areas of South Florida. All three students were awarded cash prizes and their artwork will be displayed in the terminal for one (1) year, with potential for their art to be viewed by more than two million travelers.

"After a brief hiatus, we're pleased to be able to offer our student art contest again and would like to thank the students for their participation and hard work this year," said Scott Van Moppes, Director of Airports. "We're continually blown away by the talent of our local students and feel fortunate to be given the opportunity to showcase that talent at MYR. Passengers can now enjoy another year of finding fun and creative works of art on the walls in the terminal and we look forward to seeing what students come up with next year."

The Myrtle Beach International Airport plans to launch its third annual high school student art contest for the 2022-2023 school year and will announce details in the coming months.
